The
walleye is a freshwater resident that will only
rarely wander into brackish waters. As such, it
is a very successful species and ranges from Quebec
throughout much of the eastern United States,
all the way to the Gulf coast in Alabama. Although
the walleye does not flourish in Labrador and
the Atlantic provinces, its range includes areas
of Quebec, Ontario and the prairie provinces and
even a northeasterly portion of British Columbia
and the Northwest Territories. The walleye has
established a strong presence in the Northwest
Territories in a broad belt following the Mackenzie
River, Great Bear Lake and Great Slave Lake.
